About this event
Join STS for a visit to scholarship recipient, Ty Teissere’s home “lab” in Pomona. We will take an inspiring glimpse into the future of sustainable living. Nestled among 50+ fruit trees, ranging from subtropical to temperate varieties, the property is a thriving ecosystem in itself. A carefully curated selection of edible and medicinal plants is biodiverse, and offers both practical and educational value. The home is designed with water conservation at its core, featuring a whole-house greywater system, a 500-gallon rain tank, and a whole-house water filter ensuring clean water throughout. In the garage, a commercial vermicompost system efficiently transforms organic waste into nutrient-rich compost. Fabric raised beds and container gardens are irrigated by a hyper-efficient Blumat tensiometer system that optimizes water use. Every element is interconnected, demonstrating a thoughtful and practical approach to regenerative design. While we won’t have time to explore everything in detail, we’ll focus on the most exciting aspects that showcase innovation, sustainability, and resilience.
